JACK Holder really burst onto the world stage in spectacular fashion this summer – overcoming the handicap of a broken wrist to fall just short of a bronze medal in the final World Championship standings. Nevertheless, a fourth place finish represented an impressive surge up the rankings and in this week's magazine, the Australian reveals: "In the two weeks after Torun, I was pretty disappointed. I could have had a medal around my neck and all that pain would have been worth it. But it was awesome – my best season yet in the Grand Prix. It was only my second season in there and I had an injury. To still be up there and fighting for a medal in that last Grand Prix was pretty awesome. Everything has been going well. I know I haven't reached my peak level yet, but I am happy with the way things are going. Of course, I would like more, but it's speedway and you can’t ask for things too quickly. It's a long process. I am really happy with everything and how it is all going."

GLASGOW banished the memory of three Championship Grand Final defeats in the last seven years on a glorious night for the Tigers in Dorset. The Ashfield club comfortably kept Poole at bay to lift the second tier title for the first time since 2011. We have full coverage in this week's magazine, with team manager Cameron Brown commenting: "We have been working so hard as a club to get success. It seems to get harder every year that goes past to cross the line and win the title. There’s been a lot of criticism thrown at us for being the bridesmaids. But that just served as motivation and it's helped us in lots of ways. Now the big job is to retain the title. This doesn't mean we aren't hungry for success anymore. Wednesday night was such a special feeling. But we want that more and more."

SHEFFIELD have been crowned Sports Insure Premiership champions after producing the greatest comeback in Play-Off final history to defeat Ipswich. The Tigers overturned an 18-point first leg deficit in the return at Owlerton to lift the top flight trophy for the first time. In this week's magazine, we have all the reaction, with one of the last heat heroes Chris Holder commenting: "For that last one, I just told myself that I've raced for a World Championship with the hardest guy in speedway at the time, Nicki (Pedersen), so I was like 'this is nothing' but of course there was a bit of pressure on. I had a bad one at Ipswich and I felt I let the boys down a little bit so I wanted to redeem myself. I wanted to give the boys something to cheer about; Rob (Lambert) was in that race as well and we knew we just had to stop them getting a 5-1 and it worked out good."

IN the end, the Vojens kevlars controversy proved to be only a minor bump in the road on Bartosz Zmarzlik's relentless march towards a fourth world title. The Polish star sealed the deal in style in Torun on Saturday night, racking up his fifth win in nine completed GP rounds to see off Freddie Lindgren's late bid to steal his crown. In this week's magazine, we have full coverage of the finale, with Zmarzlik revealing: "My intention was not to win and rub anyone's nose in it. Quite the opposite; I was desperate to do it for myself. I am very glad because I am going to have an easier life mentally now, especially after Vojens. It was me who was to blame for the kevlar saga, and you cannot reverse the past – it is history now. Before the Torun round, I desperately wanted not only to win the whole series, but also to claim a win in the final event."

GREAT Britain has made significant progress on the international stage since the new broom wielded by Rob Painter and Vicky Blackwell swept through the management structure. Speedway of Nations gold in 2021 tops the list of achievements so far but team bosses Simon Stead and Ollie Allen are hungry for more. In this week's magazine, Allen reveals: "Making sure the youngsters don't think they have made it before they are competing and winning races internationally is something that I'll monitor. Even now, I ask around about a young rider's attitude, I speak to a lot of riders that ride with them and I get feedback, you build a picture of what they are like. Speedway has become more and more professional and even if you just do the same as everyone else, if you only match that you will not be better than them, you have to go above that."

IT was certainly a first to be recorded in the annals of Speedway Grand Prix history... a rider being barred from competing because he was incorrectly attired for the pre-meeting practice and qualifying session. And not just any old rider, only the World Champion-elect on the cusp of collecting his fourth world title! In this week's magazine, we dissect the Bartosz Zmarzlik 'kevlar-gate' rumpus that dominated the headlines at the Vojens SGP. The rider himself says: "I am still shocked and damn angry at what happened. I lack the words, because such an inexplicable mistake happened to our team for the first time in its life." Race Director Phil Morris said: "Every time a rider signs their entry form at the start of the season, they are told they need to abide by the FIM Speedway Grand Prix regulations and commercial agreements." Read the full story – only in Speedway Star this week.

GLASGOW fans have a new hero in their midst as the club prepares for the Cab Direct Championship play-offs - new signing Vadim Tarasenko has already endeared himself to Tigers supporters with a 13+1 performance in last Friday's win over Oxford. In this week's magazine, he reveals how his surprise move north of the border came about: "I have a base in the UK in Peterborough. Chris Harris asked me about a contract three times over three weeks. Plus, he kept sending me messages asking if I come or not come! I asked him how far is it to Glasgow? He said six hours and I replied, 'oh my God!'. But it looks like a very beautiful country. When we were driving I saw the mountains, they were good views and it looked like a movie. I'm happy to be here. I haven't spoken to my family, team-mates or anyone else about my decisions to race in the UK. I act very much on my own, I make my own decisions. If I feel I want to do this, then I come and that's what I have done."

TAI Woffinden was flying high in Cardiff – but not quite in the manner he had hoped and perhaps expected. The three-time World Champion looked to be on course for the semi-finals of the British Grand Prix in the Principality Stadium until an unexpected and spectacular launch into the air-fence left him nursing a broken wrist. "I knew I had broken it as soon as it happened. I'm not blaming anything; it was a crash and that was it. I know how long it takes, it is a minimum of four weeks, so I won't be at the next round in Denmark. It looks like the season is over but, if it is at all possible, I will try to get back for the last round, who knows? I was planning a big end to the season but now that won’t happen."

THE biggest date on the British calendar looms this weekend as the world's best riders converge on Cardiff for round eight of this year's title chase. Home fans will have a quarter of the field to support with Tai Woffinden, 2022 winner Dan Bewley, Robert Lambert and wild card Steve Worrall all in the mix. For Woffinden, it's another opportunity to add a Cardiff victory to his CV for the first time and in this week's edition, he reveals: "I have had a few bad years. My life has been a little bit crazy. I have been living in different countries. I moved the family to Poland and then back to England again. There is always something going on in my life. I try to live my life to the full, and I will continue to do that. But I always put 110 per cent into my racing. I have probably worked harder in the last 12 months than I have done in my whole career put together, trying to get back to where I can be. We are going to keep fighting until the season is finished and then hit the ground running next year."
