NICOLAI Klindt's season may be over following a dreadful crash in Poland – but the King's Lynn rider is already planning ahead towards his comeback next year. The Dane retains a burning desire to fulfil his goals in speedway and still has ambitions to reach the Grand Prix series. In this week's magazine, he reveals: "Last year my form was very, very inconsistent. I could score four points in Denmark, five points in Poland and the next week 15 points in Poland. I have worked a lot on myself, mentally I have changed a lot of things I was doing, I have focused on things I can do. How I look at it is the more positive experiences you have through the day, the bigger positive mindset you will have overall. What I have worked on a lot is to turn those negative forces into positive forces. Instead of focusing on the problem or the negatives, focusing on the solution or positive forces, there's always a solution to any problem."

THERE were no clean kevlars to be seen anywhere in the pits after a Manchester mudbath of a British Final – but neither Dan Bewley nor Steve Worrall were complaining. Belle Vue's top dog Bewley retained his national title, whilst Worrall finished runner-up to secure the coveted wild card position for next month's British Grand Prix in Cardiff. Afterwards, Bewley conceded: "It's somewhat of a relief just to get through it. It was a tough night with a sketchy track. It’s obviously a special night, especially because of the way the track was. But it definitely wasn’t an easy one. I don't really see it as something I want to win again and again. But at the same time I'm not saying I don't want to race in it again next year. To get the first win was pretty special. Hopefully I'll still be here every year and contend for it. You work really hard for it. But it's never the same feeling as winning it for the first time."

ONE of the highlights of the British calendar looms on Monday...the national final at Belle Vue's National Speedway Stadium. Amongst the contenders will be Danny King and in this week's magazine the former champion reveals: "Once you get through to that final everything resets and it's a four-lap dash. I do like the dirt, there's no secret to that. These past couple of years the tracks have been getting slicker due to the way the bikes are these days. I still revel in the heavier material. If there is dirt on the track I always feel confident. For me, it's tough at Belle Vue, it's been slightly slicker the last few years. Everyone is quick so that’s such a level playing field. Certainly on a track like the National Speedway Stadium, it's wide open. But I'm always confident and I always believe in myself. I believe I've got another title in me. I'm going back to the NSS on my birthday and hopefully to have a very good night."

A THRILLING Speedway World Cup Final ended in dramatic fashion with heartbreak for Great Britain – and Poland crowned champions for the third consecutive time. But it took last heat heroics from home hero Maciej Janowski to secure the gold medals for the hosts, the Wroclaw favourite revealing in this week's magazine: "I was pretty chilled going into the last race. I knew the changes we had made for the last heat gave me not-so-bad speed. The boys were fighting each other and I thought I could maybe use the gap. I saw the gap at the end of the third lap. I used a good line, and it was actually working. It was very emotional. I think for the fans, it was amazing. That's why they come to the stadium – to get those emotions and get that feeling. A win is a win, and it doesn't matter how you get it."

IT'S World Cup week – and we haven't been able to say that for a while! In this week's edition, Great Britain's talisman Tai Woffinden is gearing up for a competition he believes offers a good opportunity for gold. "I've been looking forward to it, super-excited to race at Wroclaw in a World Cup. I don’t think we've had a team this strong for a very long time, especially a four-man team and a reserve. All the boys are on the gas. We'll see how we go and keep chipping away at it. The first job is to get to the final, then we'll think about that when we get there and give them hell when we make it. A gold is a gold. I always want to win more. That's why I do this, to win medals."

A CLASSY last to first burst swept Connor Bailey to the British Under-21 title at Glasgow, fitting for the lad they call 'Tornado'! And the newly crowned champ took it all in his stride afterwards: "The dive-bomb was a 50/50 choice. It was the fence or the trophy. He gave me the room to be fair, it looks a lot harsher than it did when I was on the track. You’ve got to do what you've got to do, it’s win or lose. I'm feeling really good right now. If you didn't feel good you wouldn't chuck it about like that. I'm enjoying being busy. You only do this for a half a year so I’m taking whatever is offered. I thought there would be a lot more adrenalin than this to be honest. I think after my last few rides I knew I was there to win it. So it wasn't as much of a surprise to the body when I finally did it in the final."

THE cream of Britain's young crop will be locking horns this weekend for the national Under-21 Final at Glasgow – where home fans will certainly be rooting for Tigers' up-and-comer Ace Pijper. The level-headed teenager has been impressing at Championship level this season and in this week's magazine, he reveals: "The biggest thing I am learning from other riders is how to prepare for meetings and deal with the pressure or nerves. After I won my first race for Glasgow this season, I just felt that if I could do it once, I could do it again. I've come back down to earth a bit a few times since. But that's all part of the process. I've got to deal with the low points and just forget about them and move onto the next race. You can't change what has happened before, you can only change what you do next time to win the race or do better or not make the same mistake. Every rider has gone through it at some stage in their career and I guess you never stop learning."

DANYON Hume says he "just wants to be the best rider I know I can be" as he continues to climb the speedway ladder with top flight Ipswich and second tier Redcar. In this week's magazine, the young Brit reveals some big targets, both on the team front and individually, and confirms: "I still have big ambitions. I think most of the homegrown riders in this country want to be British Champion, that's my aim. Also, when I feel like I'm ready, I'd like to experience racing abroad more. A lot of the younger riders now get the opportunity to race in Poland's Under-24 league. The timing has worked out perfectly for them, but when I was starting out that wasn't around and those chances weren't available. It's frustrating that I can't turn back the clock. All I can do is look forward and focus on what I can achieve now."

THE first major trophy of the season goes up for grabs this week with Glasgow and Poole contesting the final of the Championship's BSN Series. We talk to Pirates team manager Neil Middleditch and Tigers' No. 1 Chris Harris ahead of the big showdown. "I've got so much time for Chris," says Middlo. "If you look up the word 'race' in the dictionary, it would have a picture of him under it. A rider knows that if they make a start on Bomber, they really are going to have a tiger on their tail. You can never, ever underestimate him."
