BRITISH speedway fans thought they'd seen the last of Aaron Summers when the 2021 season drew to a close. Not so! The Aussie has stepped out of retirement to return to the saddle and assist injury-hit Championship side Oxford. In this week's edition, the former Berwick star reveals: "What has changed since last year? I just missed it. Plus my wife, kids and I plan to go back to Australia permanently but that won't happen until the end of this year at the earliest. So that means there’s still the rest of this season to go, I may as well do something that I love doing. This is the last three or four months I’ll do in British speedway, that's for sure."
PLEASE NOTE: Postage of £1.60 will be automatically added at checkout.

INSPIRED by his children, Ipswich and Plymouth star Ben Barker reckons there's far more in the tank as he bids to fulfil the potential of a career that has so far taken him as far as the final of four British Finals. In this week's edition, he reveals: "The engines and carbs are fine after so much investment. Now it's a bit more going into the clutches. Then it's just down to the jockey. If you know that your equipment is right, the belief flows because the results come and you feel that will carry on. The only thing that can improve is me. We are working hard behind the scenes to make me better. If I can lose some kilos, that could make another difference."

IT hasn't been the return to racing action that Bradley Wilson-Dean was hoping for when he signed for the Newcastle Diamonds last winter. No sooner had the current season begun than the Kiwi was frustratingly back on the injury list – and in this week's edition, he reveals: "I told Newcastle the week after, 'I don't want you guys waiting on me, you've got to do what is best for the team. If you’ve got to sign someone else, no hard feelings, you have the club to look after, don't worry about me'. It's up to them. I don't expect them to wait on someone who is injured, and doesn't have a clear answer of when he'll be able to ride. I couldn't expect them to. I'm not worried if they sign someone else; for them, I think it's more about surviving than it is about winning, so they need to survive. I want whatever is best for Newcastle Speedway."

A FRIGHTENING crash in the Czech Republic last autumn that led to a bleed on the brain set Brady Kurt's career back – coming so soon after the Covid-19 disaster of 2020. But now Belle Vue's Aussie believes he's upwardly mobile once more and heading in the right direction for a Grand Prix berth. Our front cover star reveals: "I was on such an upward path until the pandemic, it fell apart for me a little bit. I lost my place at Leszno and had to go back to the second league at Lodz. I had such a bad 2020. Since then, I've just been trying to build back to where I was. This year, I've been fit again and things have been going really. I'm just trying to get everything back on track to where I should be. My next goal is the Grand Prix. I feel like I've never really wanted it until now. I’ve always felt I'm close to it but always felt I wasn't quite good enough just yet or ready."

JUSTIN Sedgmen is back in British racing – and how! The Australian returned to the SGB Championship in style with new club Birmingham posting back-to-back double figure scores in two meetings against Oxford. In this week's edition, he rails against the promoters' hire 'em, fire 'em approach: "At the moment, the UK has such a rider shortage and I think they want to look after the people who are riding here. It is a big commitment, it costs a lot of money to get yourself set up and clubs should concentrate on their rider availability. As soon as there is an injury, there is a guest, then another guest, then another guest. It looks pretty bad. As for the ruthlessness, it is not really needed. Unless there is an injury or someone doesn't want to ride any more, there should be no need for it. A rider should be given some warning if they are going to be dropped."

A SPATE of injuries early in his career almost pushed Ryan Douglas away from speedway – but now the Aussie is flying again and thankful that he didn't turn his back on the sport. In this week's edition, our front cover star reveals: "When I first came over to Scunthorpe, I started going okay. But I kept getting injured and breaking a lot of femurs, legs and stuff like that. That kind of slowed me down and I lost confidence for a few years. To be honest, I was pretty over it at the time. I didn't have my best season at the time. I was looking forward to going home and just riding for fun really. I had a few months where I didn't really ride. But I started speaking to Darcy (Ward) about things, I then got on a bike again. I was enjoying it. I had that year off, I then started doing well in Australia and felt like I could have another good go at it. I worked on some things and came back and started again fresh."

A PAID maximum for new Premiership club King's Lynn is an early indication that Aussie up-and-comer Josh Pickering is on the path to greater things this season. In this week's edition, the Stars captain and Edinburgh heat leader reveals: "When you work hard for something and when it doesn’t happen for you, it's disheartening but drives me on even more. My focus and the pressure I put on myself has shifted. All I wanted last year was to do good for Edinburgh. I'm everywhere I want to be right now. I've changed my focus now on managing to score consistently in both leagues. The pressure has lifted which is nice. But there's a different pressure which is a lot more controllable. That's why I’ve been having some good meetings. I'm still entitled to have some bad ones, that’s speedway, you can't win them all."

THEO Pijper may be heading towards the twilight of his long racing career but the family name looks set to remain part and parcel of the British speedway scene... through sons Ace and Stene. In this week’s edition, the Dutchman reveals: "In 1998, I did a Worlds qualifier at Peterborough and some Edinburgh people supported me. A year and a bit later, I was here. The first season was always tough because I hadn't done much speedway... a couple of meetings in, I 'phoned my dad and told him I thought it was time to come home. But he said, what you have started, you finish it. From then on I stayed obviously. It was hard. Everyone always said that Theo was good on the big tracks, I fancied the small speedway tracks more. I'm quite chuffed my dad said that to me. It was a sliding doors moment. Who knows, if I had gone home I may not have married Carrie and then had the kids and had a big career in the UK."
