EMERGING Brit Leon Flint has a big season ahead of him – and in this week's edition, he reveals his dedication to training as he bids to reach the top. "It's really important. I think I might have that edge of what to do with my body and my training over other people. There's only so far talent can take you. But when you get thrown in with the big boys, that's what everyone has come up from. I realised when I had my first proper season in 2019 and came up against some very good riders. I took a step back, I knew that I had good equipment and I felt I had to knuckle down and be the athlete that I need to be."

AUSTRALIAN Ty Proctor is bound for Berwick this summer as he bids to get his career back on track after a troublesome period. The new Bandit reveals in this week's edition: "I finished the 2019 season with a fair bit of debt, money that I owed to people in speedway. I paid that off but I'd run out of money. I'd applied for a residency visa so I could work and then Covid struck. I was fortunate to go to work every day and earn a living. When speedway come around again (in 2021), I had this new plan and new angle and tried to do both but it didn't work. That's why I stepped away, it wasn't that I fell out of love with speedway. I just wanted to get away, re-group and start again.”

CHRIS Harris graces our front cover this week – and in an interview with Phil Lanning, the former British Grand Prix winner talks about the influence his late father Cedric has had on his career, a return to Peterborough, his move to Berwick and the ever-improving Great Britain team: "I definitely wish when I was starting out I had the opportunity of the Great Britain set-up now. We've been saying it for years before Rob Painter took over that is what it needed and now it's first class. It's come at the wrong time for me but for the next generation, what an experience for them to come through this GB camp now. They are shown what needs to be done to reach the right standards."

GREAT Britain's Speedway of Nations winner Tom Brennan talks candidly about the tragic loss of his mother Sarah to cancer on Boxing Day in this week's Speedway Star. He reveals to Phil Lanning: "I was trying to be strong. Now we have come to terms with it. It's still tough, you still have your moments. But it now feels at peace. Mum loved her speedway and she told me to never stop doing that, she was my biggest fan. We will now all be doing things to make her proud. It’s pretty difficult. A FRESH start with new club Birmingham is just what the doctor ordered for Josh Auty as he seeks to put behind him a traumatic couple of years in which he’s suffered concussion, a painful relationship breakdown and the loss of his team place at Scunthorpe. Now he's fit and raring to go again as he reveals in this week's Speedway Star: "I have only got one point to prove and that's to myself. I'm excited about getting back to it but a little bit nervous at the same time. It's been a difficult period for me but I have dusted myself down and I'm ready to get going again. I'm looking forward to having a fresh head on and to enjoy riding my bike. I believe there's a lot to come from Josh Auty."

AHEAD of the Great Britain team's Academy Camp in Bicester this weekend, we talk to Speedway of Nations gold medallist Dan Bewley, who won't be racing in the SGB Premiership in 2022. "I've not turned my back on British racing. I enjoyed my time at Belle Vue and I'm sure it won't be the last time I race here. But Sweden is something I've wanted to do for a few years. I've never rode there, I wanted a change and some new tracks. I obviously think it will do me good as well."

AUSTRALIAN racer Josh Macdonald is convinced his career has been saved – by laser eye surgery. A late season appearance in Redcar's Silver Helmet individual meeting last October convinced the then Scunthorpe rider that he needed to do something about his failing vision and in this week's magazine, he candidly admits: "I couldn’t see properly. When I came back into the pits, Ty Proctor, who was also riding in the meeting, said, ‘you can't see a thing out there, can you?' and I said 'not really'. Then he said, 'get your eyes done as soon as you get home'. Ty has seen me ride right through the years and he picked up on it when I did a night meeting. It wasn't ideal when you are riding and you can't see good, you are not really very confident either, sometimes you are second guessing everything. You are trying to stay alert as much as you can and sometimes you just make a mistake. You have to focus 24/7 when you are riding."

HATS off to Danish newcomer Benjamin Basso, who made quite an impression on his British league debut with second-tier champions Poole last season. A winter move to Glasgow didn't endear him quite so much to the Pirates faithful, however, and the youngster admits in this week's Speedway Star: "I can sense they are pretty disappointed with my decision. It was a tough decision but I didn’t really have a choice because of the Danish league clashing with the Wednesday meetings. But I have no bad feelings with Poole at all, I had such a great time there. The people around the club were really good to me."
