A late season appearance in Redcar's Silver Helmet individual meeting last October convinced the then Scunthorpe rider that he needed to do something about his failing vision and in this week's magazine, he candidly admits: "I couldn’t see properly. When I came back into the pits, Ty Proctor, who was also riding in the meeting, said, ‘you can't see a thing out there, can you?' and I said 'not really'. Then he said, 'get your eyes done as soon as you get home'. Ty has seen me ride right through the years and he picked up on it when I did a night meeting. It wasn't ideal when you are riding and you can't see good, you are not really very confident either, sometimes you are second guessing everything. You are trying to stay alert as much as you can and sometimes you just make a mistake. You have to focus 24/7 when you are riding."
