THE celebrations over Belle Vue's Premiership title win were perhaps longest and loudest in the Wright household. Aces' star Charles is following in the tyre tracks of his grandfather Jim Yacoby, a former Belle Vue rider himself, and in this week's magazine, he reveals: "My granddad is a man of few words but I know he's proud and deep down he'll be happy we've done it after so many years waiting. It's the most famous and longest-standing speedway club in the world and he loved being part of it. Now his grandson has done it, I know he's happy about that. I was five when Belle Vue previously won the title in '93. I remember that so well and the celebrations. It's incredible to think that I would go on to do the same. I wonder what a Charles Wright at five would have thought of that. I loved speedway, that would have been a dream come true for me. And it has in the end."

A PULSATING and dramatic Premiership Play-Off Final between Belle Vue and Sheffield culminated in a first league crown for the Aces in 29 years. For Tom Brennan, the gold medal capped what he describes as "an absolute whirlwind this year". In this week's magazine, he reveals: "The thing I've struggled with the most is the expectation on myself. I don’t use anything as an excuse. There's been big highs and big lows. I've had bad spells when it's all got a bit too much for me...(but) I've never given up on anything. I've always seen the end goal and remembered stuff what my mum and nan told me. My mum always said, 'never ever stop'. She also said, 'always go for what you believe in, and stick at what you're good at'. The joke was that I was only ever good at speedway, so I had to go for it!"

A PLAY-OFF finalist in both the Premiership and Championship, Kyle Howarth is hoping to wrap up a memorable 2022 season with gold medals in the colours of both Sheffield and Leicester. In this week's magazine, the Mancunian reveals: "The finals are totally different atmospheres. We've come all this way, we don't want to lose. The fans are different on the night, it's a little bit eerie even sometimes. It's quiet and a bit more nerves because it's the Grand Final and obviously everyone wants to win. But all the teams in the finals have won their semi-final both home and away legs. I believe in the boys. There's a very good atmosphere in the team at Sheffield. I think we deserve to be there. It's not been an easy season and we are ready for it now. The true champions will come out on top."

AFTER winning three World titles in four years, who can stop Bartosz Zmarzlik from dominating the Grand Prix series? There are plenty of big guns with designs on the trophy in the years to come but for now Poland's finest is basking in the glow of another outstanding triumph. In this week's magazine, we have full coverage from the season finale in Torun and Zmarzlik reveals: "Racing is fun and I love to do this. I feel free and happy on the bike. Racing is my life. I want to do a good job on the bike because when I go to the track – it's just me and the bike. It's really nice. I am very happy about the whole meeting in Torun. The whole season was so good. There were ups and downs, but I have been in the top five at every round, so that’s not so bad for me. I am very proud to have won three gold medals."

IT was quite a day for Jordan Jenkins on Sunday. The Oxford Charger raced to victory in the National Development League Riders' Championship at Scunthorpe, thereby becoming the first Oxford rider to lift a riders' championship since the legendary Hans Nielsen in 1990! We have full coverage from the Eddie Wright Raceway in this week's magazine, as Jenkins reveals: "The red lights came on when I was on the second bend of the final lap and then you're wondering what’s happened. Of course, at that point in the race, you think it’s going to be awarded and it was. The moment I realised I'd won the meeting – you can’t beat it. I'm over the moon to win the NLRC. It’s great to win something for Oxford – I was mindful that I was representing them in this meeting. It's a good feeling to win a trophy for Oxford in their first season back."

OXFORD'S American star Dillon Ruml fully expects to be racing in Britain again next year – after making great progress this summer with the rejuvenated Cheetahs under the guidance of experienced heads like Scott Nicholls. In this week's magazine, Dillon reveals: "I don’t want to sound geeky, but it was kind of cool to be teamed up with somebody like Scott. Growing up, I'd watch races back in the States, the British league and all that, I knew what a good rider he was. It was a bit nerve-racking being in the same team as him, you don't want to be that annoying kid or something, but any time I had any questions he never hesitated. If I had questions about my riding, my set-up, my starts, the track, anything like that, I could go up to him and ask, and Batch as well (Troy Batchelor) – he was helpful."

BRITISH Final, take two... and after the rumpus that ensued over the washed out first attempt at the National Speedway Stadium at the beginning of last month, everyone will be hoping for a trouble-free afternoon at Belle Vue this weekend. None more so than Tom Brennan who, very briefly, thought he was about to become national champ last time. In this week's magazine, he reveals: "For about 10 seconds, I felt I was British Champion, I couldn't believe it was happening. I kind of got my hopes up but straight away I switched those thoughts off. But for 10 seconds those emotions go straight to your head...in the end, it was a total disaster for me to take it all in. Even getting third, and I believe I did better than that, would have been an amazing achievement for me. But instead we now start from scratch and I've got to put everything before behind me and forget about it as best I can. I have to use that as a motivation and I'm hungrier than ever right now."

IT was double delight for Leon Flint at Birmingham as he made it back-to-back British title wins, adding the Under-21 crown to the Under-19 trophy he lifted at Redcar a month earlier. In this week's magazine, we have full coverage from Perry Barr, including reaction rom the new champion: "It has been tough, but this has set me up for the final stretch nicely and this has definitely given me a kick up the backside to finish the season strong. I've just been trying to keep the correct attitude as much as I've almost wanted to give it up at times. I think it's been quite tough this year with money and all the rest of the things like that. But I've always had that thought in my head of how bored I always am in the winter and how lucky I actually am to get paid to ride my bike across the world."

DANNY King's mechanic Josh Warren has grown up around speedway riders – and now he's making a name for himself on the track as well as wielding the spanners for the former British Champion. In this week's magazine, Mildenhall's up-and-comer reveals: "At Kent last year, I was going to meetings happy to get like three points. It was hard when you spend all that time getting rubbish scores. I ended up last season snapping my thumb practising at Scunthorpe. I did wonder whether I wanted to do it, I was thinking whether it was really worth it, that sort of thing. When you are sitting there injured, you just think about it, am I going to make it, that sort of thing, but I decided to stick with it."
