CHRIS Harris’ hopes of becoming World Longtrack Champion were dashed by Martin Smolinski in Muhldorf on Sunday.
The Briton topped the championship standings by one point going into the final round in Germany and needed to finish ahead of the home favourite to secure the title. But Harris fell one place short of reaching the day’s final and with Smolinski already through to the last race, it meant the German had done enough to clinch his second longtrack crown. Dane Kenneth Hansen won on the day, with Smolinski finishing runner-up. Harris had to be content with the silver medal overall, an improvement on his third place finish of last year. • Full coverage from Muhldorf in this week’s magazine.
