THE National Development League's sole standalone team has been crowned third tier champions. Mildenhall collected the points they required from trips to Kent and Armadale to overhaul Berwick at the summit and take the title. In this week's edition, we talk to Fen Tigers’ Jason Edwards: "I absolutely loved my time riding for Mildenhall this year. A lot of the crew there travelled up to Edinburgh and we all won it together. It was a brilliant team atmosphere. I couldn’t fault it. We are the only standalone National League club, so that makes it more worthwhile."

AFTER a 32-year wait it would have been churlish had we opted to relegate Great Britain's epic victory to the also-ran shelf, so this week's issue places Tai Woffinden, Robert Lambert, Dan Bewley and Tom Brennan centre stage (page?). And, just for good measure, we've been granted an exclusive behind-the-scenes look in the GB camp over the weekend. "It can be tough. The good times are few and far between if I'm being totally honest. But this makes it feel worthwhile," says Great Britain MD Vicky Blackwell. We'll drink to that...

IT'S Speedway of Nations time and with this year's Final being at the National Speedway Stadium, that means a rare racing visit to this country for Britain’s No.1 Tai Woffinden. In this week's edition, we catch up with the three-times World Champion as what, for him, has been a disappointing campaign draws to a close. "Just because I've had a bad year isn't a reflection on any particular issue. We are always chasing a goal. It's been my worst year since pre-2013. The bar is set very high for myself. If it's anything less than a gold, it's simply not good enough. There’s no doubt we have got some things to work on. I'll be ready and I'm looking forward to next year. I'm always hungry for success."

NINE rounds down, two to go – and the World title race will be settled in a Torun double header as Bartosz Zmarzlik and Artem Laguta go head-to-head for the championship. In this week's edition, we look ahead to what promises to be a thrilling finale and Laguta's manager Rafal Lewicki reveals: "It's hard to find some smart words before Torun. We will just try to be prepared. The way Artem is racing the bike, he is enjoying the racing and he's doing brilliantly. We don't need to speak too much. We know what to do. I know what he is expecting of the bikes and, as a team, we know what we should do to get the bikes done. It's not like we have found the magic formula or we have found something special."

HISTORY-MAKER Drew Kemp completed a hat-trick of British Under-19 Championship successes at Scunthorpe on Friday, the first rider to achieve the feat – and even more remarkably, he didn't drop a point in any of his three victories! Next step on the ladder is the Under-21 title, with the Ipswich and Edinburgh rider declaring: "That's a target of mine now, and if I can ride how I've ridden tonight and put that into my domestic form, and my European form at Under-21 level, then hopefully I'll win a few more trophies and score some more points."

YOUNG British rider Nathan Greaves has decided enough is enough and called time – for now – on his racing career. In this weeks Speedway Star, he tells us why: "The decision was a bit unusual to be fair. It wasn't something I was thinking about for months or even weeks. The decision came all of a sudden. But I do think it started when I crashed at King's Lynn a couple of months ago. My ribs and back still hurt to this day. It started to stem from then that I was starting to have thoughts about what I am doing. Every year I start to build some confidence, get some scores together, I then have a big crash and it ruins it. Then I have to build myself back up again. Every time I have to do it, it gets harder each time."

INJURY has once again played its cruel part in Stefan Nielsen's season as the Sheffield and Poole rider finds himself on the sidelines following a nasty smash at Birmingham involving home rider Valentin Grobauer. While he hasn't yet ruled himself out of the play-offs, Nielsen admits it was a nasty one: "I could see I was about to hit him. The one still image I can see when I close my eyes is me looking at the seat and the back end of his bike. After that, I guess I just closed my eyes and hoped for the best. The next thing I remember is lying on the track and it was weird. I had people coming over, but I couldn’t really talk. I was speechless. I was in so much pain that I couldn't really move, think or talk."

THE sad and sudden demise of Eastbourne has come as a major blow to the Championship and British speedway in general, and not least to Eagles director Ian Jordan. In a frank and honest appraisal of what went wrong at Arlington this summer, Jordan reveals all in this week's Speedway Star – and promises to settle any outstanding debts owed to the club's riders. "It will have an impact on me, not a life-changing impact, but I feel it is the honourable thing to do. There are two options, seeking ways to make sure everyone is paid or to put the company into liquidation and let people end up with a fraction of what they are owed. Ethically, as it is feasible and possible (to clear the debts), I want to take the honourable route out of it."
