THE Speedway Grand Prix will welcome back some of the old Magic this weekend – quite literally. Oxford's Maciej 'Magic' Janowski returns to the World Championship fray in round six in Gorzow as a substitute for injured Latvian Andzejs Lebedevs and in this week's magazine he talks about the loss of his permanent GP place: "Maybe I was a little bit disappointed at the beginning. But I soon changed mode and knew then it would be easier for me to sign for a team in England again. With the Grand Prix as well as Poland and Sweden, England would be too much. I'd have to quit one league. So really the Grand Prix was holding me back from coming to the UK. My plan is just to have good fun again in my racing. I have fun on the bike and I don’t stress much. If I come back to the GP one year, that's good. If not, I don’t stress about that."

TOBIASZ Musielak's injury absence from King's Lynn's Premiership line-up has led to consternation in the top flight in recent weeks – and in this week's magazine, the Pole explains his side of the story. "Basically, I broke my collarbone and I wish it was only this. I broke my tibia last year and had torn ankle ligaments and in the recent crash my left foot was damaged again when I hit the track with the speed during the fall. Luckily the tibia bone is all okay but I damaged ankle ligaments again and this pain is much more uncomfortable than the broken collarbone. Every step I take reminds me that I am a living human! I am still at the physio four or five days a week and doing many exercises at home as well. That's very boring but it's much needed at the moment. I came back to racing three weeks ago in Krosno but, to be honest, that was far too early and I didn’t finish all my programmed races. So for several weeks it's just been full of physio focusing on recovery from the pain."

BRITISH Champion for a third year in a row, Dan Bewley will be looking to carry that momentum into the fifth round of the Speedway Grand Prix series in Sweden on Saturday. In this week's magazine, we have full coverage from a dramatic night at the National Speedway Stadium and also look ahead to Malilla. National champ Bewley reveals: "At a lot of the bad rounds, I feel we can put our fingers on what went wrong and what we can improve on. I've learned a lot this year. It's just about putting it into practice. The first year in the GP came easily. Everything seemed to work so well in the second year. The results weren't bang on but everything was so good that I didn’t want to play around too much. That has cost me a little bit this year. I think I have been a bit too stubborn with bike set-ups this year – just because something worked in the past. You don’t want to drift too far away from what you know but sometimes you have to throw the books away and just make it happen."

THIRTY-FIVE years after his uncle Martin Dugard was crowned British Under-21 Champion, rising star Sam Hagon repeated the feat. The teenager powered to victory in this year's Final at Glasgow, fulfilling one of his primary objectives for the season in the process. In this week's magazine, we have full coverage from Ashfield, with Hagon revealing: "One of my main goals was to be British Under-21 Champion. I'm just glad I've done it. It hasn't really sunk in yet but everyone who has supported me, to get me to this stage today, has been unbelievable. I don't want to just finish here, though. I now want to make the British Final in years to come and obviously the World Under-21 and SGP2. This is just the start. I'll keep plugging away and see what I can achieve."

BRITAIN'S brightest young prospects will be battling it out for the title of national under-21 champion at Glasgow this Sunday – and in this week's magazine, we talk to four of them. In-form Dan Thompson has been turning heads so far this season and reveals: "I obviously come across as a very quiet character but I am extremely motivated. Being dropped from my clubs last year gave me a real boost to go back out and prove that I'm worthy of my team spots, which I did do. The teams who picked me up have kept me on for this year and I'm making good progress with them. Everything is going good and, finally, I'm being recognised for my performances."

COMETS hotshot Tate Zischke has been making waves in the Cab Direct Championship since landing a team place at Workington – and will forever be grateful for the backing he receives from his main Australian sponsor Ivor Harm, as well as support from Darcy Ward. In this week's magazine, he reveals: "We were speaking to a few clubs and Darcy and I both felt Workington was the best one. Darcy helps me with everything, from eating healthy to race craft, running my business and talking to clubs. Everything he's learnt over the years, he's passing onto me, which is amazing. When I started out, Darcy was the main one I looked up to. I was always watching him, even before he started helping me, and Chris Holder, Doyley and all Aussie riders to be honest. But the main one was Darcy and now to have him actually on my side, it's crazy!"

A NEAR seven-year wait is over for Jason Doyle, who claimed his first SGP win since Melbourne in 2017 at Saturday's second round of the season in Warsaw. The Aussie has taken up the early running at the top of the standings but in this week's magazine, he reveals: "My baby girl Grace has changed my world. The life of just being a speedway rider is gone now. I have finally got purpose in life with having a family. I think that might help to take the pressure off because speedway is only second to me now. Obviously I still want to win and I always want to be on top of the rostrum and winning races. But when I go home, I have a baby girl there and I am very happy. I want to make her proud. I was driving alone to the stadium in the hire car on Saturday and I was thinking that I'm 38 years old, I rattled off all the injuries I had had throughout my career like the broken necks, broken backs and 11 dislocated shoulders, and I thought, 'why do you keep doing this?' There was only one reason why I wanted to keep doing this. I had this deep feeling that I could win another Grand Prix."

THE countdown is on to round two of the Speedway Grand Prix series in Warsaw on Saturday where early series leader Jack Holder will be aiming to make it back-to-back victories. In this week's magazine, Holder's brother Chris, the 2012 World Champion, looks back on a memorable night for the family in Croatia a fortnight ago. "Everyone was buzzing. After the media spoke to him, he was in the van getting changed and we had a video call with Mum and Dad and his partner Jess. It's a shame we had to do it like that, on a video call, because we can't all be in the same place. But that's the best thing about technology – it feels like you're there anyway. It's the next best thing and everybody close to us is proud and stoked that he got the win and had a good night. No matter what happens, Jack getting that win has kicked a pretty big goal in terms of brothers in the World Championship both winning Speedway GPs. For all of us, it's so cool but for Mum and Dad especially. It's hard to put into words but we are super-proud of that achievement."

A NEW name joined the Grand Prix winners' Hall of Fame last weekend – after Jack Holder posted his maiden SGP victory in the opening round of this season's World Championship. In this week's magazine, we have full coverage from Croatia, including reaction from a delighted Holder: "I went well through the heats in the past, and then I put more pressure on myself in the semi-final to get through and make that start. My problem then was backing it up in the final. It was a big relief getting into the final. This time I just kept focused and knew I needed one more start. I did it and held on for four laps. It was the longest four laps ever, especially with the track. You had to be fully focused for the four laps. It could have caught you out very quickly. You had to hit those holes in the right spot, hang on and hope everything stayed on – like chains! I was thinking of everything that could go wrong, but I am very, very happy now."
