THE Holder brothers are up and running in Poland – despite being forced to self-isolate recently following positive tests for Covid-19. In this week's edition, we catch up with Jack, who revealed: "It was a bit of a strange one. When we did get tested, they checked the results and we had very small amounts of the virus inside us. We tried to get some more tests because we felt absolutely fine. But we did the hard yards in quarantine and came out stronger than ever. It came at the right time if we were going to get it, I guess. We didn’t miss much – just a couple of practices."

"At the end of any meeting, five riders out of any team will get takeaway food. We worked it out in the last full year in 2019, I spent about £900 on just fast food after the meeting. I pay for my mechanics as well. That is absolutely ridiculous. Most of last year I just made some food, went to a services after a meeting and used their microwave. It was as easy as that." British prospect Leon Flint talks to Phil Lanning about getting serious to make it into the speedway big-time.

THE Pijper family name looks set to be associated with speedway for many more years to come. While Dutchman Theo has no thoughts of hanging up his kevlars just yet at the age of 41, his sons Ace and Stene are also showing plenty of promise on track as they bid to follow in Dad’s footsteps: "I was really busy with my boys in 2019. The GPs and internationals clashed too much and I thought about how I could have more time with the kids to help them ride." Read the full interview with Theo in this week's Speedway Star.

RUSSIAN rocket Emil Sayfutdinov is our big name interview in this week's Speedway Star as he looks ahead to the start of the new season next month: "The Grand Prix and Polish league are so different. When it comes to the tracks, they are prepared differently for the league meetings. In the Ekstraliga, you have a lot of lines to pass somebody if you lose the starts. In the Grand Prix, it is more important to make the start. I like a grippy track in speedway, but I also like good speedway. If you feel like you can pass, that's good. But sometimes you can’t pass. There is no chance because there's just one line working."

THE mantle of top Dane has been assumed by Leon Madsen in recent seasons after a victory in the 2018 European Championship, followed by the silver medal in the 2019 World title chase. Can he go one better than that in 2021? The Czestochowa star thinks he can and tells us: "My goal remains the same. I still want to be World Champion. I train hard for that every day. I didn't manage to get to more finals. That was the problem last year. We were not sharp when we needed to be and unfortunately with the new points system, you have to be sharp when it matters – when it comes to those semi-finals."

FRONT cover man Max Fricke has spent his winter in Europe rather than heading home to sunnier climes Down Under – and in this week's Speedway Star, we have a three-page interview with the GP star: "Getting back to Australia at the moment is expensive and then the challenge is actually getting on a flight that's going to go there rather than get cancelled. The time in quarantine wasn’t something I really wanted to do. My girlfriend Georgina is British, so she wouldn’t be able to come into Australia with me. If I was going, I wouldn’t have been going for very long and overall, I think it was the best decision to hang out here and do what I can in Europe, which has been a nice change.".
