CHAMPIONSHIP new boys Plymouth's dive into second tier waters has created quite a splash thanks to the signings of big names like Jason Crump and Bjarne Pedersen. And in this week's Speedway Star, we talk to both of the former Grand Prix riders as well as Gladiators promoter Mark Phillips, who says: "I am sure that by signing the riders we have, we will create great interest throughout our county and indeed the adjoining counties. It's going to be a spectacle to watch. If I cannot fill a stadium with two former GP riders and World Champions, then how can I fill a stadium?"

RORY Schlein's move to Poole gives the Pirates arguably the best top three of all the teams in this season's Championship – and in this week's Speedway Star, we have an exclusive four-page interview with the reigning British Champion: "I always felt I was competitive at Poole, especially when I was racing Darcy. When I was racing him, I felt so frustrated. I think in 2011 I trapped him three times one night and he passed me three times. I knew he was special years before that, but I remember ringing my dad going home one night and saying 'the guy is a freak'. It didn’t matter what I did – whether I was on the inside or in the dirt. I couldn’t keep him behind me."

IN-FORM Australian Ryan Douglas features on the front cover of this week's edition – and inside the newly-crowned South Australian Champion talks about his current purple patch: "Getting wins is still a good feeling and puts you in a good mindset for the meetings coming up. This is the best I have been riding in Aussie for a long time – probably ever." Also this week, Douglas' fellow countryman Leigh Adams reflects on the sad withdrawal from the 2021 Premiership of his former club Swindon and tips the Robins to bounce back bigger and better in 2022.

DANISH star Nicolai Klindt is one rider committing himself to racing in Britain this summer – assuming a new season can be launched at long last in the spring. In this week's edition, he tells us: "I wanted to honour my deal I had with Ipswich and Chris Louis. I have said that to him since he told us we were not going to race in 2020. I am just waiting until the fixtures come out and then we can crack on. But I think everyone is getting more nervous now about everything – when things will open up again and how much time it will be before the season starts."

EUROPEAN Champion Robert Lambert features on this week's front cover as he prepares for his debut campaign as a full-time Grand Prix rider: "I feel I am ready to go on to the GPs. In 2018, I was offered the chance to be first reserve for 2019 and I did pretty much all the meetings. There was a lot of speculation going about, saying that I would be getting a permanent wild card for 2019. If that did happen and I had got that phone call, I would have turned it down. At that stage, I wasn’t ready. Two years later, I am in a better place mentally and physically as well."

HAPPY New Year! In this week's Speedway Star, we turn the page on 2020 and head into the new chapter of 2021 in the company of Britain’s finest Tai Woffinden, whose fitness regime never stops as he builds up to another World title tilt: "I'm in a really good way, I do everything an athlete does which is probably pretty much the same for everyone else so I don’t think too much about it. I wake up in the morning, train, eat breakfast, play with the girls. I just do everything, cycling, running, gym work, all the standard stuff to keep fit. I've got a gym at home. I’m surprised people still go to the gym but some people need to keep their motivation."
