SHEFFIELD will face Glasgow in the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs.
The battle of the two Tigers will commence on Thursday (September 21) of this week, after the table-topping Yorkshire side used their pick of opposition on their Scottish namesakes and elected to hold the first leg at Owlerton. Glasgow will hold the second leg at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Tuesday, September 26. Sheffield promoter Damien Bates (pictured) said: "When the play-offs get underway, the whole season starts again and everything you've done beforehand counts for nothing."¨Glasgow have been hit by a fair few injuries of late and their results have suffered as a consequence. "But their form doesn't mean a thing and despite some of their recent results, we definitely won't be taking anything for granted over the two legs. "We want to be on the front foot and hit them hard early on at Owlerton this Thursday and it's important we build up as a big a lead as we possibly can. "It's certainly going to be a tense but exciting couple of meetings and, fingers crossed, the team can just ride how we know they're capable of.""¨ Sheffield's decision to select Glasgow as their opponents means Ipswich and Edinburgh will meet in the other semi-final. The first leg will take place at Ipswich this Thursday (September 21) and Edinburgh have earmarked Friday (September 22) for the return, although that date has still to be confirmed.
