ERIK Riss will be racing in Britain this summer after all.
The German has reversed his decision to sit out the year in this country and has signed for Premiership King’s Lynn and Championship Birmingham. Riss said: “I needed the reassurance that I was going to be able to ride this year, which is why I originally decided to go to Sweden and Denmark. “Since then, things have been improving in the UK and it looks a lot more positive now. “It looks like we’re going to get racing this year and I have always said that financially and in terms of racing, it makes sense to ride in Britain over Scandinavia. “I hope everyone is happy with me coming back and that I didn’t upset too many people before, but the Stars management are really happy I’m coming back. “I’m the kind of rider who always wants to win so coming to Birmingham I just want to play my part and win races. “Overall, I think the league looks quite strong but I think the Championship and Premiership are now on a similar level because riders have had to leave the UK with new rules in Poland.” Meanwhile, Jitendra Duffill, co-promoter of Riss’ former Championship club Redcar, commented: “We are aware that Erik’s circumstances have now changed, but due to averages we can no longer fit him into our team unless we were to drop one of our existing riders. “Those riders have turned down offers at other clubs to come to Redcar – to renege on the agreements we have with them and to make them unemployed on the eve of the new season would be unjust and immoral.”
