IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK…
Favourites Denmark clinched the World Cup for the second time in three seasons when they pipped the Poles to the gold medals in a dramatic Final at Vojens. A partisan home crowd saw a solid-scoring Danish quintet pull clear of the Poles in the closing stages, with Sweden struggling after a bad start of four last places in the first five heats and Australia hamstrung by the loss of Jason Crump with a broken finger. Extensive SWC coverage, including reports and pictures from both the Race-Off and Final, in this week’s 64-page edition.
Elite League Peterborough are a club in turmoil after co-promoter Mick Bratley resigned and No. 1 Hans Andersen refused to ride for the Panthers again until boss Colin Horton clears a backlog of unpaid wages. Horton admits he can’t afford to continue paying the Dane’s salary and has asked his star rider to take a pay cut, but Andersen says he won’t even consider the new terms until he is paid what he is owed. A possible takeover of the club fell through when talks between Horton and a prospective buyer collapsed, but the Panthers boss is adamant he won’t let the club collapse.

ALSO IN THIS WEEK’S ISSUE…
Belle Vue celebrate 80 years of speedway in Manchester on Monday and historian Trevor James looks back on the high and lows of the Aces.
Workington host the PL Fours at Derwent Park, where the Comets will start as favourites. Reading’s Chris Mills looks ahead to the big night.
Plus all the week’s big stories, including a big new signing for Swindon, the end for Reading’s Smallmead Stadium, and injury worries in the Premier League for Redcar, Newcastle and Scunthorpe.
