PEDERSEN SIDELINEDNICKI
Pedersen’s torrid season has taken a turn for the worse after it was
confirmed the three-times World Champion suffered a fractured shoulder
blade when he crashed during a Polish League match at Buygoszcz on July
11. The Gorzow rider was also concussed in the spill and is almost
certainly ruled out of the forthcoming World Cup, although Pedersen
himself has not discounted the possibility of taking part in the final
stages at Vojens. Meanwhile, in this week’s issue, we look ahead to the
SWC – which begins in Gorzow on Saturday and continues at King’s Lynn on
Monday – with Great Britain manager Rob Lyon and also talk to Simon
Stead and Denmark’s Niels-Kristian Iversen. Plus, all the week’s top
news stories, including a lucky escape for two spectators at Scunthorpe
who escape serious injury after being hit by a flying bike, a wet start
to the opening leg of this year’s three-round World Under-21
Championship in Gdansk, and new arrivals at Ipswich.

HOLD-ER ON TO YOUR HATS!SIX rounds down, and five different winners – the Grand Prix series is shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested in years after Chris Holder’s unforgettable first-time victory in the British GP in Cardiff. The Aussie capped a memorable performance by leading home Jason Crump, Jarek Hampel and Hans Andersen for his maiden GP triumph on the sport’s biggest stage. There was the usual Cardiff drama, including a Danish tiff between Andersen and Nicki Pedersen and a heat-of-the-moment fall-out between the Aussies Holder and Crump, whilst series leader Tomasz Gollob was knocked off his perch thanks to a most untimely engine failure as he led the first semi-final. Hampel has nudged ahead in the championship, which now takes its customary mid-summer break for a month to allow the World Cup to take centrestage. Our team of reporters brings you all the stories from Cardiff in another packed edition, which also includes coverage of a top night for Sheffield at the Premier League Pairs, shock news for Mildenhall fans and some straight-talking from Coventry team manager Alun Rossiter
